‘Solar Eclipse’ wins nomination at Show Me Shorts

Iranian-French short film ‘Solar Eclipse’ wins a nom at the Show Me Shorts Film Festival in New Zealand.

Iranian-French short film ‘Solar Eclipse’ has received a nomination at the Show Me Shorts Film Festival in New Zealand.

‘Solar Eclipse’, co-directed by Raha Amirfazli and Alireza Qasemi, was nominated for the Best International Film at the 2021 edition of the event.

“Saaghi and her two friends have come to the largest park in Tehran to take pictures of the one-in-a-century total eclipse later in the afternoon. Mischievous and rebellious, they steal a camera stand, lie to their parents and discuss boys and an upcoming party. As the sun disappears, Saaghi sees something that should have stayed hidden,” a synopsis for the film reads.

The Show Me Shorts is “Aotearoa New Zealand’s leading international short film festival”, the event’s website reads.

It is an Oscar-accredited film festival, which means that the winners of the top two awards, Department of Post Best New Zealand Film and Best International Film, will become qualified to enter the Academy Awards.

The festival will announce the winners on October 17.
